Hey all,

Looking for guidance based upon your experiences.

When I apply for a position I find through USAJOBS, I have always submitted my resume--customized for the specific announcement--using USAJOBS' resume office. However, for some of the agencies (BLM) you may upload a file of your resume.

Is there whatever benefit to uploading the document over using the USAJOBS resume function?

Thanks.

I practice the USAjobs resume, it ends up existence 4-5 pages but hey, they asked for all that data. If you upload a shorter resume you might miss some of the things they want and you simply get ane shot at it.

I only used the template in USAJobs. I think the HR people are used to seeing the information presented that mode and might adopt it, knowing that they'll know when there is missing data. But that's but a hunch.

I e'er did the U.s.a. job resume but had the same thoughts every bit you lot. So I made my own custom resume and uploaded it as a "cover letter" in the saved documents section. my custom resume was much shorter (2 pages) and only striking the hot topics. I got picked up inside 2 months that way

You should utilise the USAjobs resume builder considering it satisfies what the Hour wants; why risk it. I take never had any problems with the resume builder. Besides, a longer than usual resume for a federal job is non even a problem. It volition be disappointing to miss something because you decided to customize and upload your style of resume. I suggest using the USAjobs resume architect; you can't go wrong with it when applying for a federal position.

It really depends on what form! If you're applying for something like a v, use the resume builder. The questions are geared to lower level jobs and they become thousands of applications ... so it'due south easier for the recruiter. If y'all are applying for say thirteen or higher, they would expect y'all to have a professional person resume, and there aren't so many applications. Think about it ... no real professional person is going to screw around with the clunky resume builder!!! If you're in the mid-grades, it'due south tougher to telephone call!!!

Whether you employ the resume architect or not is up to y'all, but . . .. The resume builder is designed to ask you for information that HR explicitly expects to exist provided in the resume. Skipping just i of these data points tin can result in your awarding being considered incomplete, or the HR person doing the review deciding that they tin can't observe bear witness supporting your claim on the questionnaire of six years' feel doing [apathetic] in your resume (didn't include dates, or include a comment about that specific expereince in each and every time cake where it aplied in gild to acquire six years' experience, etc.).

A professional resume tries to be far more succinct. The government HR team wants explicit and detailed. If you were responsible for the training, evaluation of preparation and personal appraisals for a team of network engineers at three different chore positions across a series of 5 positions, the 60 minutes team wants those 3 positions to explicitly telephone call out that responsibility (and each position to explicitly phone call out dates) . . ..

Not sure where you go this from. I managed to state several GS13 job offers (including my electric current position) with the resume builder in USAJOBS. Same with the well-nigh recent -14 and -xiii hires in my agency.

HR doesn't hire yous. If you are not getting referred, then your resume is potentially non meeting the Hr requirements. If you are getting referred, then it is. If you are getting referred and not hired, y'all might want to use a amend resume format than the awful format spit out past the resume architect.

If you are the all-time in your field and caput and shoulders above the other applicants, whether you use resume architect or non does not matter. If you lot are one in 400 applications for a GS-7 job, consider putting your all-time foot forward and giving the hiring official something well-formatted and easy to read.
